Supporting Dementia
In the UK, it’s predicted that over 1 million people will be living with dementia by 2025, and this figure is expected to rise to over 2 million by 2050. Much of the responsibility of care falls onto loved ones.
We established our charity, The Ethical Foundation, to support families living with dementia.
Dementia Care and NPT’s
Alongside our advice and support to families in need, we also provide help through non-pharmacological treatments and aides. Our most popular intervention has been Doll & Pet Therapy, which has been proven to decrease anxiety and agitation and increase happiness and social interaction.
We also provide other aides, including weighted blankets, dementia clocks, and hydration sweets.
Together, these help the person with dementia live a happier, more fulfilled, and less stressful life while helping the carer engage with their loved ones.
You Buy Coffee: We Buy Dolls
Our dementia giving is entirely funded by our sales of Jamila’s Ethical selection of hot beverages, food and hampers. We developed our range to have the same values as our mum, Jamila. All our best memories of mum were in her kitchen; dinner on the stove, and chatting over a hot drink.
Jamila loved nature and was never happier than when planting and growing her garden, and although she was born in East Africa, her heritage was Indian. Mum would have been proud that our coffee, in her name, was grown in East Africa and India.
She would have loved knowing her coffee is Fairtrade and supports majority-female farming co-operatives. She would have adored that our coffee shrubs are grown under the shade of native trees and amongst native plants, and not in plantation rows, helping biodiversity. To her, nature was always the best gardener.
We welcome partnerships so we can give back more, together. Our next steps are to look at retail and coffee shops, and we want to establish a Dementia Village in the UK. If you share our vision and can help, we’d love to hear from you.
