Impact
Environmental researchers have identified nine planetary boundaries that, if left unchecked, could result in ecological collapse. We have crossed 6 of them.
Net Zero and Beyond
Climate change is the most urgent environmental challenge we face, but it’s just one part of a broader crisis. Countless other issues, like deforestation, pollution, soil degradation, and resource depletion, also threaten the health of our planet and significantly impact our lives today.
At Ethstat, we collaborate with a diverse group of environmentalists and university researchers to identify ways that we, as a business, can minimise our total environmental impact while meeting the basic needs of our community. We were the first social enterprise in the UK to sign up for DEAL, the ecological economics action lab started by Oxford Economist Kate Raworth, and Break Free From Plastic, the global campaign to end plastic pollution.
You Place Orders: We Reduce Scope 3 Emmissions
In 2008, we wrote our first paper on Scope 3 emissions in the paper industry. Understanding how paper (a low-value, very dense, heavy item with a global supply chain) emissions were produced led us to create a methodology that has informed our every buying decision and allowed us to calculate and reduce our Scope 3 emissions and our clients.
Our approach is to identify products made from the most sustainable and reusable materials. We then investigate where they are made, prioritising the supply chains closest to the point of consumption. Finally, we assess our suppliers to ensure they have close links to their communities, good employment policies, and stringent modern slavery compliance.
In our experience, companies that look after their staff and recognise their responsibilities to their communities tend to take the environment more seriously.
We take these assessments seriously, and consequently, we know the environmental impact of our products and the industry averages. In turn, that allows us to improve our measurement and reduce our impact, as well as yours. We report on the ecological and social impact of our products and services to our customers on a quarterly and annual basis. Organisations like Greenpeace and Amnesty International, for whom the environment and society are mission-critical, choose us as their supply partner. If you are serious about the planet, you should too.
