Supporting Employment
Helping the Hardest to Reach
Our Impact team comes from some of the hardest-to-reach parts of society with the most significant barriers to employment. Our impact team includes those who are currently living on the street, have been long-term unemployed, sometimes for decades, have severe health issues or have experience of the judicial system.
We work with them sometimes for years to build their confidence and skill sets to enter the world of work. Our approach is to couple strict standards with a community spirit, constant support and an inclusive environment to put them in a position to be successful. For many of our team, success might never include holding down a full-time job, but contributing work that helps others, rather than taking from others. This gives them a sense of confidence and accomplishment few have experienced before.
Placements in Action
Living without a home is not something anyone should be defined by. It’s a temporary experience that passes, but the trauma it leaves behind can last much longer. Over the past twenty years, working with vulnerable people, we’ve learned that rebuilding confidence takes multiple interventions and ongoing support.
In the worst cases of street homelessness, each month on the streets can set someone back a year or more in their self-image and confidence. A crucial part of recovery is having consistent, trustworthy people and a safe space to rebuild.
We remind our neighbours that living without a home is just part of a journey, not a destination. By offering a place of belonging, we’ve helped many people move from living on the streets to being housed, and from there into full-time work. The first step is always to show that a brighter, productive future is within reach. Our placements are about helping individuals take back control, starting with a timetable, a reason to get up each morning. From there, we support them to develop the skills that will prepare them for work and life.
All our placements are paid at the Real Living Wage, not just because it’s the right thing, but because it shows our respect for their worth, and the respect they deserve for themselves. We provide skills training and a community where they can learn, grow, and gain confidence. For those without a home, work becomes more than just a job; it becomes a positive social space where they can feel valued and connected as part of a wider community.
